Dave Rubin is our resident New York Blues authority. He is a guitarist, teacher, author, and journalist. He has performed with Son Seals, Honeyboy Edwards, Steady Rollin Bob Margolin, Billy Boy Arnold, Johnny Copeland,Chuck Berry, James Brown’s JBs, The Drifters, The Coasters, and The Marvelettes. He has performed on the “Blues Alley” and “New York Now” T V shows and in commercials for Mountain Dew and The Oreck Co.
Dave has authored over 100 books for the Hal Leonard Corp. on blues, blues-rock and jazz. His 12-Bar Blues was nominated for a publishing industry Paul Rever Award for 1999. He was the musical director for the Star Licks DVD series “Legends of the Blues”. Dave has co-authored books with Cornell Dupree, Jerry Jemmott, Bob Margolin, Duke Robillard, and Smokin’ Joe Kubek.
As a journalist, Dave has written for Guitar Player, Guitar World, Guitar School, Guitar One, Living Blues, Guitar Shop, Blues Access, Guitar Edge, and Guitar Player magazines. In 2005 he was awarded the “Keeping the Blues Alive Award “in journalism by the Blues Foundation in Memphis Tennessee.
